Aztec Rainbow by Noel Dyrenforth
Aztec Rainbow by Noel Dyrenforth compresses a wealth of pattern and texture into a clearly
organized and satisfying design. The first waxing covered the curved patterns in the small right-angled
triangles.
The first dye was pale yellow and while the fabric was still wet the bottom edge was dipped in
pale blue so that this dye crept up the yellow fabric. The next waxing covered areas of yellow and outlined the
rainbow.
The rainbow colours were then painted in and completely covered by wax. The next dye, a deep
turquoise, was painted across the top two-thirds of the fabric. This mixed with the yellow to produce a
greyish-blue which was partly covered in the next waxing.
An olive-green dye was painted on to define the largest triangle and finally the wax on the
bottom third of the fabric was crackled and a navy blue dye brushed over all the exposed areas.
