Batik Modern Textile Art
Memory Garden by Juliet Boyle

Memory Garden by Juliet Bloye has some of the close-toned unity and twinkling pattern of
traditional Javanese batiks. Her sequence of dyeing began with turquoise followed by pink, lemon yellow, chrome
yellow, and finally a dark blue which was allowed to crackle through the very heavy wax layer.
The fabric was then dipped into another colourant, not a dye but a brentamine - Fast Black K Salt
- a chemical which modifies all the previous Procion M dye-colours creating the muted brown effect characteristic
of Javanese batik.
