Batik Modern Textile Art

by Michael O'Connell

mid century modern textile art batik michael o'connell

Michael O'Connell used paste and wax resists on this discreetly coloured batik. The first red dye was painted onto the pattern created with a heavy, slightly cracked paste resist.

That resist was then completely rubbed off the fabric and the remaining dyes were applied over wax resists. The extra colours that appear on the face reflected in the mirror were simply painted on afterwards.
