Life Centre by Noel Dyrenforth

Life Centre is the most symmetrical of Noel Dyrentorth's batiks. The dark central disc is patterned with tjanting-drawn dots and jagged lines. All the other softer, brighter forms cluster around this circle with tjanting calligraphy added after the first dyeing.

 Procion M fibre-reactive dyes were used, first in pink, followed by orange, then red, and finally the darkest dye, a mixture of three parts navy blue to one part brown. The rich background shows the effect of adding all four dyes.
